About me
I am from Guatemala, a Central American country where the Mayans were excellent astronomers and developed advanced astronomical systems, observations, and observatories. However, by 2020—when I earned my Ph.D.—there were only six astronomers with a Ph.D. in the country’s history.
I studied Physics at Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala (USAC), and then Astrophysics at the Instituto de Radioastronomía y Astrofísica (IRyA), Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), where I earned a M.Sc. and Ph.D. degree in the group of Dr. Susana Lizano. From March 2020 I joined the planet formation group lead by Dr. Laura Pérez as a post-doctoral researcher at Departamento de Astronomía (DAS), Universidad de Chile (UChile). From June 2024 - October 2025, I worked in the planet formation group lead by Dr. Paola Pinilla at Mullard Space Science Laboratory (MSSL), University College London (UCL), and I joined the Instituto de Astronomía at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México as Associate professor since November 2025.
Since I started working in astronomy, I have been motivated by the desire to understand how, where, and when planets like Earth form. This curiosity has led me to study the physics of protoplanetary disks through theoretical models, simulations (especially during my M.Sc. and Ph.D.), and observations (mainly during my postdoctoral positions).
