About me

I am from Guatemala, a Central American country where the Mayans were excellent astronomers and developed advanced astronomical systems, observations, and observatories. However, by 2020—when I earned my Ph.D.—there were only six astronomers with a Ph.D. in the country’s history.
I studied Physics at Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala (USAC), and then Astrophysics at the Instituto de Radioastronomía y Astrofísica (IRyA), Universidad Autónoma de México (UNAM), where I earned a M.Sc. and Ph.D. degree in the group of Dr. Susana Lizano. From March 2020 I joined the planet formation group lead by Dr. Laura Pérez as a post-doctoral researcher at Departamento de Astronomía (DAS), Universidad de Chile (UChile), and from June 2024 I am a working in the planet formation group lead by Dr. Paola Pinilla at Mullard Space Science Laboratory (MSSL), University College London (UCL).
Since I started working in astronomy, I have been motivated by the desire to understand how, where, and when planets like Earth form. This curiosity has led me to study the physics of protoplanetary disks through theoretical models, simulations (especially during my M.Sc. and Ph.D.), and observations (mainly during my postdoctoral positions).
